Internship Machine Learning (6 months)
Machine learning to grade reliability of multidimensional measurements. NTS has designed a measurement system to qualify customer specific products prior to delivery to the customer. The product has two cascaded linear stages, with strict requirements on linearity and orthogonality of stages. The measurement system samples the two dimensional parameter space of the product at regular intervals. The result of a measurement procedure is a set of about 300 samples and each sample is a 9 dimensional vector.

NTS Systems Development, located in Eindhoven, Wijchen and Nijmegen, employs approximately 190 people and is the development division of the NTS-Group, which focuses on the disciplines Mechanical Design, Electrical Hardware, Software, Electronics Design and Vision. We provide support in these areas for the specific engineering activities of our clients. We have the capability to take over total responsibility for production and optimization from the client at any moment during the development process, and to transfer this to the other companies within the NTS-Group.

The measurement system samples the two dimensional parameter space of the product at regular intervals. The result of a measurement procedure is a set of about 300 samples and each sample is a 9 dimensional vector.
We like to grade the set of vectors resulting from the measurement, such that an operator gets direct feedback on quality of the measurement, as an answer to the following two questions:
- is the measurement procedure executed correctly?
- is the product acceptable?
Given the large data set, there is no straightforward mapping into a one or two grades representing the answers to these questions. NTS intends to solve this mapping problem using the machine learning, i.e. the machine learning task is to create such mapping from the collected data for the first product series. The method to solve this task should be generic, such that NTS can apply the Machine Learning approach in other projects without a lot of parameter tuning.
You are currently studying Mathematics / Computer Science at a University Level.
You are familiar with Software / Motion Control.
You are familiar with Machine Learning, though courses or similar.
