NTS-Group increases production competence of mechatronic systems by taking over BoTech

The NTS-Group in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, took over the company of BoTech in Helmond. The latter, which has become a 100% subsidiary of the NTS-Group, will continue its operations under the name of "NTS Botech". BoTech is the renowned supplier of extremely high-precision components for international customers in the high-tech industry. All employees will be transferred to NTS. Marc Hendrikse, CEO of the NTS-Group: ‘For the development and assembly of opto-mechatronic systems and modules, it is essential to be able to manufacture one’s own critical components. By taking over BoTech, we are emphasising to our customers the importance of manufacturing competence within the NTS-Group. In addition, we are increasing our own capacity for the production of high-precision frames, complete conductors and granite high-precision parts for machining and measuring machines.’

The most important products by BoTech are made of granite. This material is renowned for its hardness and stability, which is why it is frequently used in ultra-high-precision machines. Moreover, the company is specialised in the final machining of large frames and has extensive knowledge and experience in the areas of co-designing and assembly of larger, mechatronic high-precision modules and machine components. The markets served by BoTech match those addressed by NTS: semiconductor, solar, digital printing, healthcare and metrology. The takeover is in line with the strategy of the NTS-Group to further expand upon its leading position as a system supplier.

Further growth thanks to takeover
BoTech employs more than 30 people on a permanent basis and, during peak times, another 20 people on a temporary basis. The management of BoTech remains unchanged. After BoTech’s joining of the NTS-Group, their existing customers will gain access to a broader competence and capacity range for the support of their business. That is why the NTS-Group expects to realise further growth for the company NTS Botech.

Marc Hendrikse: ‘The NTS-Group has shown a financially strong 2011. The takeover of BoTech fits in with our ambition to complement our proposition to our international customers by developing as well as manufacturing complete modules and machines. After all, this takeover increases both the know-how and the manufacturing competence of the NTS-Group in the area of handling and positioning modules, such as stages.’

TNO supports NTS-Group to develop into high-precision machining specialist

The NTS-Group and TNO announced that they have entered into a form of collaboration in the area of high-precision machining. Marc Hendrikse, CEO of the NTS-Group: ‘One of the objectives of NTS-Group – producer of modules and components in the area of high-precision machining – is to reach the absolute top in this field. Together with TNO, we believe we can reach this goal even sooner. We are very pleased with this excellent public-private collaboration.”

The NTS-Group is a fully fledged system supplier for its customers. In addition to engineering and assembly, the manufacture of critical components takes up a prominent position. These competences include ‘high-precision machining’. That is why the recently taken over machining company GMZ Precision from Schaijk, the Netherlands, was merged with NTS Mans in Bergeijk. The newly formed company NTS Precision, established on the industrial estate De Esp near Eindhoven, has now become the high-precision machining company that is able to meet the demand from Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).

In order to further expand the practical aspects of the company’s competence in high-precision machining, the NTS-Group engaged in talks with TNO about ways in which TNO would be able to support this process. TNO has a vast experience in ultra-precision machining and owns some very specific equipment for this purpose. The two organisations reached agreement about the move of an ultra-high precision Hembrug machine to NTS Precision.

Knowledge transfer by means of training courses
TNO will train a number of employees of NTS Precision to use this Hembrug machine. This way, knowledge transfer from TNO to NTS Precision will take place, which fits in well with the objectives of TNO. Arnold Stokking, TNO Managing Director Industrial Innovation: ‘TNO works together with small and medium-sized businesses and wants to make its knowledge more easily accessible. That is why we gladly share our facilities with trade & industry. The agreement to have the Hembrug machine installed at NTS is a fine example of this. Together with NTS, we will be able to provide a solution for the widest possible range of development and production problems concerning the ultra-high precision machining of hard materials, such as ceramics, glass, etc.’

TNO and NTS have agreed that the machine will also remain at the disposal of TNO, for example for the purpose of research into the machining of new materials. In this way, TNO is keeping open its options to share the knowledge created by this with other small and medium-sized companies.

With this collaboration, the NTS-Group is increasing its flexibility, capacity and knowledge in the area of machining towards its customers. This way, the NTS-Group is responding to the fiercely growing demand for the in-house production of critical components. The Hembrug machine represents an important step forward in this.

About the NTS-Group
The NTS Group is responsible for the development, production and optimisation of opto-mechatronic systems and modules for leading international machine builders (OEM’s). This allows these customers to concentrate on the marketing, sales and service of their products. The important links in the machine-manufacturing chain together form the NTS-Group, whereby competence, knowledge and know-how complement each other. This way, the group keeps optimum control of manufacturability, costs and logistic performance.

Furthermore, the NTS-Group, with its NTS companies in the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Israel and China, is able to react flexibly to market demands. The unique combination of strengths ensures that international customers can successfully deliver high-quality machines with shorter lead times at competitive prices.

The NTS-Group: partner of choice in the area of opto-mechatronic modules and systems.
